Qualifications: Most placing agencies require the following basic qualifications for adoption:
Must be at least 18yrs of age.
Good physical health
Proof of financial stability
Pass backround checks
Participation in a family assessment and adoption education
Education - The adoption process can be time consuming, costly and wearing on your patience. Educate yourself on adoption options,
placement processes, fees and requirements BEFORE you begin.
Rights and Laws - Only the child has a right to be adopted. Not everyone has the right to adopt. Adopting a child means that he or she
will become a permanent member of your family just as if you had given birth to them. However, unlike birth, adopting is not an automatic
event. You must first pass State requirements and / or immigration and foreign requirements before a placement is made.
Even if you decide adoption is not right for you at this time, you can still be a part of changing an orphaned child's life through
sponsorship.
