Orphan's Lifeline International is not required by Montana State Law to have our financial statements audited.
An audit by an independent CPA has become an expensive process and because of this, we have opted for less expensive means of providing our board and our donors with assurance of our financial well- being and responsible use of donor contributions. Not only does this provide our board and donors with comparable assurance, but leave more money for the children…therein saving lives. Our mission is to the children!

To do this, we regularly consult with, and have based our accounting procedures on the advice, both written and verbal of an independent CPA with expertise in the non-profit sector. In fact, our allocation procedures and accounts payable coding was designed in its entirety in this fashion. Accounts Receivable (donations) have triple security in place to protect them. The mail is picked up by one individual and counted, opened by another who sequentially marks each envelope by hand as to its contents and the value of its contents. The same figures are entered into an excel spreadsheet by this individual. The next step is in Accounts Receivable, where a different individual, enters all donations into our QuickBooks accounting system and prints the resulting deposit report and deposit slip. This report must match the initial report before going on to Donor Relations. All financial instruments are then given to Donor Relations who again enters the values into a separate database and prints the resulting report. Finally a fourth individual compares all three reports including the Deposit Report to be sure that they all match, including the original envelopes with the values on them, which are stored until the deposit has been reconciled on the bank statement at months end.

In addition to this, Orphan's Lifeline goes many steps further in disclosure and accountability by providing donors with constant updates in the Partner's Update, The Voice of the Orphans and the password protected Partner's Pages. These three sources provide our donors with written and photographic evidence of our on-going programs for the orphans in the homes as well as special needs projects that have been specifically funded. In addition to this, all of our donors are given the means to communicate with the children, watch them grow up in the Partners Pages and we have on file, a receipt for every good or service ever purchased in the last ten years in fulfillment of our mission to the orphan children. These documents along with tens of thousands of photos and written assessments by our facilitators who make surprise visits to verify not only the presence of the children and items purchased, but the quality of the care being given are ALL available for review, here at our corporate offices, by request and appointment.
