Sadly, as in most disasters, once the headlines have stopped...you don't hear a whole lot about it anymore. The attention span of the media is relatively short and most have moved on to a focus on the very hot domestic topic of health insurance.

The problem is that when the headlines stop, people tend to believe that the worst is over in places like Haiti...but perhaps the worst is yet to come.

Long after the initial disaster rescue and recovery operations are a distant memory, there will be people in Haiti that continue to suffer...and among them, and the ones who will suffer the most, are the children. Many children became orphans when the earthquake took the person or persons that were caring for them, parents, grandparents or others. This was a country that had a significant problem with orphan children before...and now it is much worse. As we predicted, many existing homes are being asked to take in more...and as we predicted, there has been a large migration to areas outside the disaster zone...to areas like Cap Hatien, where authorities estimate an influx of one half a million people. Already we are getting reports from this area of children's homes being asked to take in numbers of children that add nearly 50% to their homes! Orphan's Lifeline and other similar organizations are working to provide for these orphan children!

For a decade Orphan's Lifeline has specialized in funding and managing children's homes in 9 countries...and we were there for the homes in South Asia following the tsunami...supporting them during and after the period of unintended growth as hundreds and even thousands of new orphans showed up at the doorsteps of children's homes...looking for shelter, food...and hope.

Because of this, and in anticipation of the on-going needs of the children who have become orphans due to the earthquake in Haiti, we have created and are managing the Haiti Fund. To donate to this fund, simply click on the button below. All funds will be held in a special account and used specifically to support the needs of existing and new children's homes in Haiti.

Why Help Orphans?
...the suffering continues...and it's the ongoing NEW issues, coupled with the ones that existed prior to the disaster that will put this fragile country at great risk!
