15% of all children in Haiti are orphaned or abandoned (social orphans), with 200,000 living in orphanages of some kind and the balance on the streets or living with relatives who far too often are too poor to care for their own children. 80% of the population of Haiti are below the poverty line with 54% living in abject poverty. Nearly 2/3 of the workforce in Haiti are unemployed and just over half of the citizens over age of 15 can read and write. Natural disasters, political unrest and frequent disease cause continued suffering for the most vulnerable, the children, who without assistance remain malnourished, uneducated and abused. Your support for a child or home in our Haiti program will provide the love and care needed to help a child get on the right path for nutrition, education and spiritual wellbeing.

BMS Children’s Home was established in 2004 by a Christian man who saw that all orphan children in Pakistan were growing up alone and illiterate. They had no means to receive an education and no one fromthe community was helping them. These children were all orphaned by the death of their parents or they had been abandoned by their parents because they were unable to support them. The children all lived in the streets or came from slave labor camps and were very thin, malnourished and in desperate need of medical care. Orphan’s Lifeline started to sponsor the home right after it began in 2004. The director cares greatly for all of these children and is taking a considerable risk by operating this home in an area that sees persecution against Christians in a country that is over 90% Muslim. This is also why it is very important to him and to all of us here at Orphan’s Lifeline that each of these children receive a Christian education and that they all have their own Bible in their own language.
BMS CHILDREN’S HOME
This home was started in 1999 when a preacher knew he wanted to give a better life to the local orphans that he saw on the edge of death with no love, food, or care. Director Fatton did his best to care for them on his own, but he was raising them in a very old and dilapidated home with no running water or bathroom facilities.
This created serious hygiene problems which led to sickness for the children. They had infections and diseases such as worms, malaria, typhoid and cholera and needed urgent medical attention. The Director had limited resources including a very poor local church who could only help a little periodically. Orphan's Lifeline heard about the home from a friend in the mission field in Haiti and immediately approved it for assistance in 2012. The children were soon moved to a different facility with more space, running water and now cooking equipment. A water treatment and filter system has also been installed. The children are now clean and healthy. Education is of utmost importance for these children. Just learning to read and write will propel them to the upper 20% of the population in Haiti who have jobs and opportunity available. Basic reading and writing skills will make them valuable in the workforce.
